The Role of Mentorship in My Growth as a Marketer

Throughout my career so far, I’ve been lucky to have mentors who have challenged me, guided me, and helped me grow, not just as a marketer, but as a professional. Having mentors has given me a perspective that no textbook, course, or campaign could ever teach.

Mentorship has taught me the value of asking questions and seeking feedback. Every conversation with a mentor reminds me that growth comes from curiosity and a willingness to learn. Whether it’s advice on strategy, leadership, or navigating new challenges, their insights have helped me make more thoughtful, informed decisions in my work.

One of the biggest things I’ve learned from my mentors is the importance of perspective. Each mentor brings their own background, whether it’s from agency life, brand management, or entrepreneurship and seeing how they approach problems has expanded the way I think about marketing and business. It’s helped me understand that there’s no single right way to succeed, only different approaches that align with different goals.

My mentors have also encouraged me to take risks, trust my instincts, and step into new opportunities, even when I didn’t feel completely ready. That kind of belief from someone you look up to can be transformative. It builds confidence and reminds you that growth often happens outside of your comfort zone.

That’s why I’m so excited to be part of the STEPS Mentorship 2025 Programme, created by IAPI and the Marketing Society of Ireland. It’s an incredible opportunity to continue learning from some of the best minds in the industry, connect with other passionate marketers, and gain even deeper insights into different areas of the profession. I’m looking forward to broadening my perspective, developing new skills, and continuing to grow through shared experiences and guidance.

As a marketer, I’ve learned that mentorship isn’t just about receiving advice, it’s about staying open to new perspectives, connecting with others, and paying that knowledge forward. The best marketers don’t stop learning, and they don’t grow alone.

For me, mentorship represents what great marketing is all about collaboration, curiosity, and continuous growth.
